Darker PB3

Maybe it's just me and my demanding subjective taste...

But from Eric's screenshots in twitter I got a feeling that PB3 looks too bright and cartoon-ish, 2.5D walls and crates effect looks funny and cheap, entities (characters, guns, crates) look out of place when you match them with the background. All game objects just don't match each other in question of color, shades, outlines and forms. Gun, visor, swords, barrels glowing looks too bright and out of place too. Darkness effect in some map areas feels unnatural and cheap.

Additionally mentioning, player's walking and jumping animations feel too dollish and slow.

To fix this I propose a global graphical overhaul:

- Choose better and more natural colors, shades and outlines for each PB3 object to make them match each other and match with the background/sky.
- Make PB3 visual theme overall darker and faded so it doesn't look like a cartoon-ish funny game for kids.
- Make entities glowing less bright and out of place.
- Make map lighting in dark areas more natural.
- (Physics) Make character moving animation faster and human-like.

Additionally I can recommend choosing a darker, atmospheric, immersive soundtrack. Something that would be good for action but at the same time that would be deep and depressive and tell you that this is a dystopian future and humanity can die out because of alien invasion. PB2 soundtrack is kinda funny and infantile and having something similar to it in PB3 wouldn't make it better.

What are your thoughts on this?

Does anybody have gameplay screenshots not from Twitter? Maybe those are just outdated. Discord/Patreon ones?

Patreon content is a reward for supporters, at the very least you should not ask for leaks in front of everybody (Eric included).

Duh whatever. I still think it's kinda dumb to pay game developer to know the stage of development. Such information should be free and accessible to everyone. Pretty sure those who wanted to support him would do it even without any rewards.

I agree with Gashadokuro. It is the developers choice to make it free or not

Plazma Burst 3 updates are often quite old, and thus hard to judge.

Plazma Burst 3 isn't too bright - if anything, the game seems to have more dark zones than ever. At most the lighting effects could be toned down on the barrels and certain guns. But other than that, it is good to see Eric making big improvements on the lighting system.

Plazma Burst 3 isn't 'cartoon-ish' either. Each game installment has gotten more complex and realistic, and Plazma Burst 3 is no exception, with slopes, better snow effects, scarfs / clothing animations, physics, AI, splatters, water, reload animations, etc.

Hi! Listen, first of all I can judge PB3 only by twitter screenshots because I don't have Eric's Patreon or Discord. So if pictures are old, okay, I may be wrong with everything I said. I need updates.

BUT, you don't cure brightness by adding dark zones, you don't cure cartoonishness by adding slopes. It's about textures, shades and colors, forms, the way how light reflects from objects and backgrounds, that weird 2.5D effect and how all these elements combine with each other. This is what creates brightness and cartoonish effect I'm talking about. Ehhhhhh dunno how to explain it. I guess eyes of an experienced map maker and eyes of a regular player work differently (no offense).

I wonder does anybody except me see what I said? Or is it just me going crazy? Probably just me I guess. Nobody understands me anyway.

Did you play the map btw?

Edit: Right now I feel like PB2 lighting works better and looks more natural compared to PB3 one. I mean if you set things like lamps right it does.

Nobody needs updates, really. Just the game, which will release sometime.

I said you were wrong based off the public twitter updates.

I did play the map, the filter made it look dirty. Could be more dynamic I suppose.

DIRTY??! You mean ugly? I spent so much time to cover one background over the other, one effect over the other, searched through whole custom decoration workshop (which is really poor for good textures) and was picking HEX codes and visibility multipliers for hours to find the most suitable the most right BGs and make a good picture and people call it dirty. OKAY. Do you not see the difference between this and visual of mainstream maps?

I guess I wasted my time one more time. Makes me sick. I did it one last time, for sure. Enough with this game.

Thanks for the review I guess. Sorry if I said something offensive again.

I'm not sure what to call it, it's the same pixels / grains moving back and forth too quickly.

Nothing crazy really.
