Ugh! I'm tired of trying to figure out what material are!

I'm just tired of figuring out what material the walls have and having the preview enabled doesn't help!
Just please add a preview material for the walls somehow as it would be much more useful!

Cause let's face it as it's getting pretty annoying to just have to playtest the map numerous of times just cause of miss walls materials!
Now I really want to die. Just to get out of this embarrassment.
Don't talk to me.

After you make maps for a while, you can picture in your head what the wall preview will be like, but nonetheless it would be nice to see it in the preview.

Hey Yex,

(This is solely based on my theory and is in no way backed by any evidence so please correct me if I am wrong.)
I believe the reason why the material of the wall isn't shown is because the texture of the wall changes depending on what's around the wall.
Example: A staircase, a fountain, wall with multiple overlaps..

To implement the ability to be able to preview the walls, the ALE has to calculate the wall textures between walls (staircase texture, walls with bump, different material walls overlapping together.)

By using a black texture none of these calculations mentioned are required.

Background on the otherhand don't really have much calculations to perform, you either show the background or not.

If it is possible to implement, I would love to see it too. However, I believe it is difficult to implement.

Best regards,
Nyove
