Old, abandoned cranes in-land of the island whirl back to life as they help in rematerializing pieces of a newly functional airfield in the center of Iwo Jima.

The new air fleet groups up, forming a formation of 20 HE bombers and 80 torpedo bombers strong.

Takao: "We've arrived at our destination, admiral. Hahajima island is part of the Ogasawara islands - Chichijima island is to the north, and they're separated by a stretch of water.

We're many miles offshore and haven't made contact with any hostile contacts. How should we approach?"

The fleet circles around, approaching Chichijima from the east. No patrols are contacted as the radar range of the fleet reaches the shores of the island.

Using the powerful visual sensors of your flagship, you're able to view the island as it pops up into view from the horizon. Chichijima is an island heavily covered in vegetation and has an uneven surface with rocky cliff faces on most sides.

Takao: "No active hostile contacts picked up. This area seems quiet. There would appear to be no port on the east side of Chichijima as it is mostly covered in rocky areas. The terrain would also appear to be unsuitable for the construction of any airfield here as it is highly uneven, and the majority of the island is forested thickly.

There's a damaged antenna tower to the south of the main island - it's completely collapsed and likely no longer functioning properly.

Long range radar scans are also picking up concentrations of metal signatures in the bay to the west of the island - likely the port of the island. However, despite the potential presence of ships, no noticeable movement has been observed from that port area.

The thin water channel that flows between the two main land masses should be wide enough for everyone except me and Aratama-maru to sail through."

The voice comms aboard your vessel comes to life with a different, slightly more soothing voice.

Verlaine: "Almost seems too quiet to me... should we take a closer look?"

Circling around the north of Chichijima, the port comes into visual sensor range. The bay area is large and the port makes use of the available space extensively - there is plenty of places for ships to dock, but there is an apparent lack of functional automated cranes, unlike other ports you've visited before.

The docks aren't empty either. They are almost packed to the brim with recognizable ship hulls.

Takao: "An entire fleet of ships, laying in dock with no observable energy signatures, admiral. They're all moored firmly in place.

Quick scan shows 2 Mogami-class heavy cruisers, 8 Hatsuharu-class destroyers and 12 Minekaze-class destroyers present. They all suffer from a general lack of maintenance."

Verlaine: "A heavy storm must've swept by recently. The air's heavy and humid, countless trees have fallen over... Most of the cranes seem completely defunct, and that antenna essentially snapped in half.

Sure hope they don't reactivate in an instant, though. We'd get wiped out in moments."

A cold wind blows across Takao's deck, sweeping up her long bow. A slight drizzle moistens up the shining metal floor of the proud vessel - you note the formation of dark storm clouds covering the sky towards the south, effectively blotting out the sky and bringing a light drizzle to the region.

The fleet powers up their primary weapon systems, generators roaring at capacity once more. The large bomber squadron is dispatched to initiate an assault on the moored vessels.

Due to the shallow depth of certain regions of the bay area, most moored destroyers are unable to be struck by torpedoes. Nonetheless, they remain vulnerable to aerial bombs.

The bomber wing flies over, organizing into several groups. Bombs successfully tear apart 5 Hatsuharu-class destroyers in dock, although a majority of bombers miss due to the small size of their targets.

The torpedo bombers find more success as the side-docked Mogami-class heavy cruisers and a lone exposed Hatsuharu-class are torn apart by a total of 7 successful torpedo strikes from the sky. A total of 11 aerial torpedoes are expended in this process.

The fleet begins sailing closer to the bay.

Verlaine: "No response, nothing. The ships aren't moving at all..."

Takao: "This is indeed peculiar... Did they lose... command? The admiralty code..."

A vast amount of wreckage has accumulated in the bay area - pillars of smoke rise up to meet the clouds.
