Entered gibberish in export game state, applied it, softlock

Postby Unkowner » 4 September 2024, 16:27

As the title says, I was basically messing around with the game state codes, entered gibberish, applied it, got an error from it but decided to go forward and try it out anyway. Now, I cannot play levels, enter multiplayer or even reset the game state, because I cannot open the menu. What am I supposed to do?

Redownload the game and reinstall. If you tried to play multiplayer you can be autobanned for altering the game state but I don't quite understand what you did, so.

That is so cool, but yeah just uninstall and reinstall the game.
And show us how to do the softlock O_o

I reinstalled the game, inputted my username and password again but nothing changed. If I log in as a guest, I have my valid save state somehow and I am not softlocked, but if I try to login with my password again, I am softlocked again...

Basically what I tried to do is edit my save state by decoding the ASCII and encoding it again. I was successful several times, but I did not like how the decoded version of the ASCII is not sorted in alphabetical order. I sorted it in alphabetical order, encoded it again and inputted the save state in the settings again. I got an error, but I did not pay attention to it, so I tried to play the levels again. However, the game got so broken and softlocked that I could not get out of the settings menu, the buttons simply did not work. I reloaded the game, but the buttons simply do not work anymore.

Try launching the game without a launcher with just a flash player and the .swf, then try logging in directly inside the game. I don't think any game state would be applied since that only happens on launch.

Ok, but that is quite an inconvenient workaround. Isn't there a way I can get access back and play normally with my account?

Well, you can hope that PB2 servers will eventually overwrite that game state with the new super cool working one.
I don't think there's any convenient solution with such a weird bug, you can beg eric gurt to fix your account maybe or just put up with a slight inconvenience like having to play pb2 with standalone flash player.

I have this account for approximately 10 years. I downloaded the game again just last week, and for those 10 years the game state was kept safe. They will not be overwritten.

Besides, I've just made myself a brand new account, when I log-in with it, the game is still softlocked. When I enter with a Guest account, my old gamestate is still saved. How does that happen?

I have absolutely no idea what your issue exactly is, how to reproduce it or anything. So again just try to get in contact with Eric Gurt maybe or staff.
I did try to break the game state but the worst thing that happened to me personally is that it would just lock me in the game state menu and that upon relaunching it would go away unless I re-enter the game state menu.

Once you get back into the game, you might be able to find the file holding the game state, and manually overwrite it?

There is one of options:
1. Rename folder in which your game is located. Any slight path to the game should trigger new local save file created.
2. Turn off Internet connection.
3. Run the game, once game has launched - make sure it is not in the broken state. Do not close the game yet.
4. Turn on Internet connection, make sure it has turned on fully (you can browser web pages)
5. Change any setting in game Settings and then exit Settings screen.
6. It should work now.

Game basically will send/request save states from PB2 website if Internet is available. Most likely both one that is stored locally and in database is corrupted so these steps should override both values.
