Image uploading for Advanced Level Editor for Plazma Burst 2

Postby Eric Gurt » 23 August 2019, 23:47

Hi,

Should we try allowing image upload for Advanced Level Editor? Most probably it will be with premoderation either by staff team or voting from some of best map makers.

It could support features such as choosing layer on which image will appear, ability to upload transparent images and generally be manipulated with level logic identically to decorations. Additionally it could also have size limits of something around 2000 x 2000 px and file size limit up to 10 Mb.

From what it seems like - it could be used as foreground & background custom level designs, interfaces, custom entities, slideshows etc.

It could also be good to double check each upload for being an original work. I think it can be possible too, though manually.

What are your opinions?

I think it would be great!
So we can upload our own textures, pictures as decorations, blocks, backrounds and such.

I personally believe that this would bring a new experience to the ALE especially with the upcoming, new, and creative mapmakers.

But there should be certain limitations when it comes to this much freedom.
It should be moderated by a group of people (maybe the staff team) and should check if the image is copyrighted.

This idea should be thrown into a "beta" stage for testing / moderation flow.

Meaning it should be managed, just as long as someone saw the uploaded image and simply approves it, is good. Doesn't need to be complicated, just a simple -- this image is not inappropriate, approved for said map.

(adtionally, if it was approved, perhaps it could be saved to their profile so it doesn't need to be reviewed again) unless an additional image is requested.. etc )

Perhaps there could be an image library that users can upload to, and once approved there the image can be used on any map.

If something like that was implemented I'd like to have an option between uploading public or private images.

Also, would there be a limit to how many different images you can use in a single map, Eric?

I think I'll decide when will be adding that. Do you have some ideas you wish it was possible to implement using this feature?

Yeah, would be cool if there was a trigger action to only show part of an image at a time, if there would be an image uploading limit, to for example show sprites from a spritesheet image.

Something to repeat the image on a background or region, with a tiled texture, to make a custom background.

And if you were planning on making them decorations, maybe a way to change anchorpoints, around which the images could rotate and whatnot with triggers.
Spoiler: Show More
like for example the weapon crate which has an anchor point at the bottom middle and the wheel which has one in the middle.

So it seems to be added and working for the most part. We'll do announcement with some more details once experimental version will be closer to replace default version of Plazma Burst 2 game.
