Community factions Lore #1: Nexxon/ICO

Postby tehswordninja » 6 July 2020, 01:01

Got really bored and decided to make this post for some reason

This post will be going over the community factions, where they fit into the overall lore (or how they could better fit), and in addition I'll be giving my thoughts on them. Overall this will be my personal take on each of these factions, though I will gather as much information as possible from the creators of each faction and attempt to adhere as best as I can.

Initial lore stuff:
Spoiler: Show More
The Civil Security are "Earth's Army", as stated by Eric. This hasn't been super elaborated on (but there have been some hints here and there) but we can assume the following:
The CS are likely a very large, unified defense force for Earth. Their existence makes a lot of sense when, if my timeline post is correct (go read if you haven't yet), Earth was aware of the Usurpations for at least a decade or two.

Therefore we can make the assumption that they are likely the attempt of a unified defense for Earth for when the Usurpations invade. Eric has mentioned that Earth has attempted many such unifications in the past, and split up just as much - perhaps Earth has finally had some real motivation to unify.

Eric has admitted there are likely still various countries/factions that rival the Civil Security to some degree.

I'll be keeping the above in mind when I talk about the community factions. Anyway, on to the factions.

Nexxon

Spoiler: Show More
misc background shit: mr kek is an alarmingly conflicted person so nexxon has changed quite a lot. i'll do my best but no guarantees. for now though, it seems the faction's identity is pretty stable so yay, onwards

Nexxon is primarily a private military company located in the orbit of Saturn, headquartered in a space station as opposed to a terrestrial base. Due to the nature of their work, Nexxon uses multipurpose transport ships capable of carrying troops and equipment across the solar system, as well as a limited selection of both atmospheric and space combat craft and vehicles. The group began with private security contracting and grew to a point where it could partake in large scale military maneuvers.

While not an incredibly large country, state, corporation, or nation, Nexxon still fields an impressive amount of personnel and military hardware despite its clandestine nature. Nexxon accepts a variety of contract work, ranging from VIP protection, escort missions, and military security, to cargo shipment and counter-insurgency operations. Nexxon attempts to keep a low profile while being as flexible as possible to accept as many contract jobs as it can. Some operations Nexxon has been involved in have attracted negative attention, especially from the Earth-bound Civil Security. No large open scale conflict has ever occured between the two factions, but tensions spiked between both as time went on.

Nexxon uses highly trained and professional contractor squads to accomplish the jobs it is hired to do. Using a mix of traditional projectile weaponry and high tech energy weapons, Nexxon operatives are well armed and equipped. Nexxon training involves stressing trust, leading to most Nexxon members being both reliable and trustworthy, despite being in a group considered by most to be nothing more than mercenaries. Some of their equipment is produced in-house - and some comes from ICO, who have an agreement to produce arms for Nexxon in return for protection and security at its manufacturing sites. The two organizations work closely together to ensure a smooth business relationship. Nexxon also uses other various weapons and equipment, especially for specific, case-by-case missions.

Overall, Nexxon is a well funded, well trained, and well equipped PMC attempting to stay under the radar while making as much of a profit as they can. They stay out of the spotlight whenever possible, though not afraid to flex some military might when needed. They conduct a variety of operations around the solar system for a vast variety of groups, organizations, and even governments. When Earth was invaded by the Usurpation forces, Nexxon turned aside its differences with the Civil Security and put everything they could into the war effort.

ICO

IndoCharon Ordnance, better known as ICO, is a dedicated weapons manufacturer who was established during the late 27th century. They are located primarily on Charon - one of Pluto's five moons. There they regularly test and detonate munitions both on the moon's surface and below.

A decidedly large portion of ICO's funding goes to its current energy weapons research program. Some of Nexxon's finest energy weapons are of ICO make, and even the Civil Security recognizes them as a competitor to their own work.

Most of ICO's equipment has unusually yet to hit the intergalactic market - only two products are currently sold to the market, those being the CS-IK and Plasma Rifle ICO-H1. The CS-IK was a next generation rifle that was set to replace the Civil Security's aging CS-RC. However, the Civil Security decided against upgrading, due to expense costs. The rifle remains popular with mercenaries and private organizations, and Nexxon fields its own variant of the rifle.

In conclusion, ICO is a heavy weapons manufacturer with a low market presence but plans to expand. ICO finds itself in a good position - plenty of security to guard its projects, and plenty of money coming from Nexxon to fund them. In return ICO found Nexxon as a great place to send hardware in need of testing. Earth's invasion barely affected the rather isolated Nexxon and ICO, but both factions quickly shifted towards fighting off the alien invaders, as both knew it was only a matter of time before Usurpation forces discovered them.

That's all for this post, I'll throw up a poll at some point on the discord for the next faction topic.
who needs a PB2.5 release date, anyways?

Actually they do have a skin but so far it exists only in decorations (the skin did not make it at the voting polls).

Exactly what I mean. I hope I can find the secret Krabby Patty formula to create these guys with character mod triggers.

If you had the head and body texture as a decor you should be able to create a very similar skin. Sadly those are only released for Nexxon Advisors.
