Lamp grenade.

What if in PB2.5/3 will be really dark places where it is visible nothing except the glowing parts of weapons and characters? For illumination of such places can help the lamp grenade. Externally it looks as the white poorly glowing Shield Grenade. In three seconds after throw it will deploy a lamp with 0.4 power or less. Also lamp will gradually go out through the same time as the Shield.

Of course, it has some important moments:

- We already have 3 types of grenades. I hope one more will be not superfluous.
- I saw topics about torches and flashlights. What is more preferable?
- Player with many of them can make awesome lags on map.
- Maybe make them the same color as player's Psi Swords?

wow.that idea is 100% great,smart,prefect and useful because in darker places or in the story(when you broke the lights)it will be a great tool to look in the dark without worried about getting attacked

Yeah, but without the flare, that would make the sight worser than it was before throwing the grenade.
And like you mentioned, it would lag like hell.

This would be great for stories if you could control it for cpu enemies where their swords and lights are off then after a certain point they illuminate all around you. That is a great idea.

Yeah, a flare of some sort could be interesting, though I'm not too sure how useful it would be.
who needs a PB2.5 release date, anyways?

As you said, there have been a number of topics for torches, and I think that is a more practical way to see in the dark, but this has its merits too, obviously the limited scope of visibility around the grenade means you'll have to be more careful about how you use it, meaning it could create some interesting scenarios in SP maps. As well as this I think the idea of a flare sort of thing is just really cool, aesthetically.

basically, good idea when we have flash grenade. Useful in MP.

No, I mean on a place of "explosion" it deployed constant lamp hanging during some time. It's more useful for SP for almost constant illumination in very dark places. It doesn't affect characters in any way. And as the usual lamp can be broken in one hit.

But, yeah, flash grenades can be good thing. I saw topic about it.

A flash grenade would just be really annoying, and the screen lag it would cause for some people would be immense, it's more than a flash when it puts your game down to 10fps and takes ages to fade away. I'm against that.

Once again, a lamp grenade is a promising preposition for SP.

Its not really a grenade though, is it?
just a throwable ball with a light in the middle.
I don't see any uses for it in campaign or SP maps too...

Well, if a mapmaker wants to create a dark map he can force you to use lamp grenades for light. Yes, I know, torches have already been suggested as another means of achieving this, but lamp grenades force you to think carefully and conserve your ammunition, it's a more difficult way of doing things. Also I'm sure the more creative mapmakers would be able to think of some amazing applications for it.
